Teaching and learning

Teaching and Learning is at the core of all we do and high quality learning experiences are designed to develop each individual student’s skill set. Teaching staff are enthusiastic in wanting to be the best in their curriculum disciplines. Strong leadership enabled by a culture of teamwork and cooperation amongst staff and students is directed towards making us the best learners we can be.

In the context of ongoing school improvement our school has established as a very high priority the alignment of the required established curriculum and the implementation of the John Fleming `Explicit Instruction Model` as a whole of school pedagogical framework. All teachers align their teaching delivery to the explicit teaching and learning framework.

This teaching and learning framework is focused on whole school explicit classroom instruction that is intentional, consistent, sequential and structured. The underlying aims are to plan for effective curriculum delivery, to enhance teacher effectiveness and maximize student achievement. Explicit teaching encompasses our goal of improving learning for all students and especially lower performing students within a classroom culture that values learning.

The commitment to this teaching and learning framework in pursuit of excellence for all students as well as setting high expectations is making a difference.

Extensive planning and preparation supports the transition of Year 7 students into our secondary school.  Formalized affiliation with our four core primary partner schools assists in the refinement of a smooth and confident entry for students into their new educational setting.
